Gerhard Heinz – Geissel Des Fleisches (Torment Of Flesh)

Eddy Saller was known for keeping the camera rolling when others would have cut short and faded out the scene with screaming girls under the shower and naked skin. Based on a true crime where a young ballet dancer was murdered in the Vienese state opera, Herbert Fux plays a manic serial killer who recalls an account of the acts he is accused of to the jury, in court. A first class exploitation movie that was of minor interest at the time as mainstream cinema and society was still stuck in the idyllic “heimatfilm” alpine world, even though it was at the start of the sexual revolution. Crime and documentary style movies such as Schulmadchen Report were the only way at the time to bring sexual scenes into the cinema, but these films met resistance from the church who’s film commission tried to prevent good Christians from attending by giving low ratings for such films. The Viennese film community was small, so each example of such a film is now considered a rare document of that time. Next to Eddy Saller’s movies Geissel des Fleiches and in 1968 Schamlos the most productive director of sexploitation films was Frits Fronz a.k.a. schlager singer Frank Roberts, who’s movies are noted for their catchy titles such as ‘Sexkarussel Via Erotica’ or ‘The Girl With The Sexth Sense’. Herbert Fux had a distinguished career in such movies ranging from Kommissar X & Jerry Cotton crime stories, to Jess Franco’s ‘Love Letters of a Portuguese Nun’ where he plays Lucifer, to lederhosen sex films.

For the first time on record enjoy this musical journey with a powerful jazzy scat vocal, exotica and bongo feast of a soundtrack!
